DISK is the students' union at the Department for Computer and Systems Sciences at Campus Kista, Stockholm University. It's primary puropse is to make sure students are treated well and provide recreational activities to promote social relations between students.A student may choose to simply remain a member of DISK and benefit from it's services or become active and join a sub-sectionact. DISK itself provdes few social events, instead it acts through it's subsections each consisting of it's own board and members (which are required to be members of DISK).DISK's subsections include: Social Events Section (KM, "Klubbmästeriet") which arrange pubs and and other social events. Members of KM are required to work a certain amounts of pubs every semester to remain members. In return for working. except for supporting DISK, it's members get access to student parties from all other student unions, 1-4 local KM-only events every semester and discounts in the pub and DISK's café. Student Interests Section (ÄR, "Ämnesrådet") which acts to protect student's interests and if necessary mediate between students and teachers. Business Relations Section (NärS, "Näringslivssektionen") which works to increase relationships between students and companies. NärS holds a labour market day every year. Särminer's Offspring ("Särminers kultingar") arranges gaming tournaments, LAN parties, movie nights, role playing and other social activities on a regular basis. Sports ("Sporten") is DISK's sports and physical activities section and arranges football tournaments, bandy and other sports-related activities. The System Letter (SB, "Systembladet") writes and prints DISK's member magazine containing interviews with professors, news about DISK and the department along with student oppinions and columns. The Café ("Kafét") is a café on campus with student-friendly prices and offers students a lunch room with tableware, microwaves and refridgerators to store lunchboxes in.All of DISK's sections are driven by it's members voluntary, except for the Café which has one employee, without any payment in return except for being granted discounts in the pub and café.Founded in 1990, DISK was a subsection of Stockholm Univeristy's Student Union but as of January 2008 DISK is fully independent.DISK had in 2007 close to 2000 members.
