UnFREEz is an animated GIF maker application available as freeware from WhitSoft Development. It was written in non-MFC Win32 C++ by Matt Whitlock and is notable as one of the smallest application downloads available at 19.5 kB.UnFREEz operates by allowing the user to unite a series of GIF images, via drag and drop into one animation which the application then also saves as a GIF file. The resulting animated GIF can then be played back in any web browser. The GIFs to be combined into the animation must be created in another graphics program, such as Microsoft Paint or GIMP. UnFREEz merely combines the images together to form the animated GIF. Criticisms
While most reviewers have had typically positive responses to this application, its disadvantages have been noted as: It is not cross platform and is only available for Windows operating systemsIt only works with GIF files and not other image file types such as JPEGs of PNGsThe default frame timer setting is "zero" which results in too fast an animation in almost all casesThe frame timer function is calibrated in centiseconds which is an unfamiliar unit to most usersThe "drag and drop" function is sensitive to the dragged file location in a stack. If a list of dragged files is not dragged by the top file in the list the list becomes unordered in the application windowUnlike most Windows applications the download does not self-install. Users must find a location to save it on their hard drive and then create a shortcut link either on the desktop or the start menu to use the application
